a poor man’s macro lens

I have this article printed and sitting on my desk for a few months now after reading about it from Brenda’s blog. I have not tried macro photography, though I tried to with a P&S camera but even with that, it is probably the tip of the tip of what macro photography really means. I don’t know much about the world of macro but after getting in closer and experiencing it first hand, it was phenomenal.

Ok, let me tell you how I did this without a macro lens. The article showed you how to achieve a macro lens with what you got, so I took my 50mm lens, set it to its highest aperture of f1.4 and reversed-attached it to my camera using an adapter. I ventured outside in the garden and looked around hoping to find something interesting to shoot, then as I point my camera, I couldn’t see anything, as much as I try to focus, everything was still blurry, then a voice came to me saying, ‘macro girl’ and I put my camera down again and looked at the bush and said, ‘oh yeah, duh!’ and point the camera back to the flower and went in closer, like literally, the flower was just inches away from touching my exposed sensor in the lens and then I see it… The world of macro… the world looked beautiful, the world was just amazing even when the wind was blowing too hard to focus. Although, this is my first attempt, I am intrigued and excited to go and find more world to shoot.

But of course, who would shoot macro when there is a cyclone imminent in the horizon? oh yeah, that would be me. Funny, how I was on my knees on the garden looking for the anything alive crawling, squirming or any sign of life but guess what, not one ant, or any creepy crawly either, and the lizards were all too fast and dubious of me pointing this huge black thing in their faces, and oh even the spider webs were devoid of spiders, not even one so I had to try and get close and personal with my tropical flowers and plants.

They are not as sharp as I wanted them to be, but for my first time on a windy day, I am quite happy with the results. So I invite you to read the article and try this for yourself even if you only do it for the first time, I know I am going to wait for those creepy crawlies and capture some earth beauty.
