I put together a slideshow of all the photos I took today mainly that of the pre-primary kids in their races as well as the year 1s.

It’s been kind of an eclectic past few weeks with my attention going to different kinds of stuff, i had a week of reading investment and tax, then another week focusing on photography, and more days focusing on sewing and craft. It’s no wonder that i get so muddled on most days.

I started sewing last year (more like dived into it) and i find it really rewarding and satisfying especially when my little girl loves the clothes i make for her and enjoy wearing them, here is one of my creations – a reversible pinafore dress. Whoever invented the reversible dresses is a genius, as much as we try to keep her nice and clean all day, she just gets too dirty by mid morning and of course the red dirt around doesn’t help much.

But hear this, what I love about summer in the Pilbara is that its got its long days. After dinner, we can get out and ride the bikes, go for a walk or play in the yard until after 7 pm, and that’s what we were doing the whole school holidays. We stay inside during the day and play board games, Wii or do some drawing and reading, then after dinner, go out and play. One fine day, Tara and I went out and played outside then she decided to ride her bike so I went back inside and took my camera out (Josh preferred to stay inside and play Wii) and captured some moments with her just being herself. She was so cheeky because she kept playing and riding her bike straight on to me, I had to hold up my foot up to stop her from hitting the camera.

Surely there was a buzz of excitement circulating around the home when the alarm went off at half past six this morning, although, I have been awake for an hour (courtesy of the hubby going off to work/bush for the week), I am sort of excited for my little boy. There is something about him though that we have not yet concluded but we make it a point not to say anything about his first day of school today. About a year ago, I noticed that he gets this upset tummy and starts spewing every time there is something big happening or even something remotely resembling an important event. At first, I didn’t really think that him being sick got something to do with the event until it seems to happen very often. Like the day we moved house, the day he was due for an educational assessment, or the day we have to go on a long trip, and even the day he has a big day at school and on and on and on. So, from then on, I try not to talk about any event happening until I really have to or even just before we go. So today, he knew that it is the first day back to school but we try hard not to say anything last night in case he gets a case of anxiety.

So this morning when the alarm went off, which is very loud considering its been off the last two months, he jumped off his bed, mumbled a good morning to me and came to give me a hug and kiss, and fumbled his way to the dining table where his breakfast is waiting. I then, went to tara’s room and woke her up as well. We got ready quite quickly, and standing by the kitchen counter, went and did a checklist of things we need for school, and when we have everything ready, got our things ready, and in one line, went our way to the front door. As we opened the car door, everyone stopped as I said, “wait! stop! I forgot something” and dashed back to the house and grabbed my camera to document the day, so here is my little boy on his first day back to school.

I think after a few days, we should be all back to our morning routine but I am glad I got the photo above to remind me of the first day of year one.

And today, as we get ready for another school year, we started the day by cuddling in bed, and telling him that education is important. I tell him to enjoy everyday in school and to make sure that he learns something new, whether big or small, whether from the teacher or classmates, and even from school itself. I took out his school supplies we ordered from Wooldridges and went through them all, 10 new notebooks, 8 new glue sticks, 10 new pencils, 4 new rubbers, 2 new packs of coloured pens and pencils, 1 new pack of textas and 1 new ruler. Also we unpack his new school bag and new lunch box. Although the difference between him and me are the new things, I hope that the lesson of education will be the same, that he will come out at the other end thankful for his education.

I still remember that I have to make do of the second-hand and hand-me-down school supplies because then that time  my mother can’t afford to buy my brother and I new things. He gets the new things while I get the hand-me-downs and his old things. And today, even though Tara is not going to school yet, she gets a new lunch box just like her brother’s, simply because now I can.

Anyways my point is, how much time am I devoting to my photography? As much as I would love to get into my passion full time, at this time in my life, I am happy to be a full time mother of two little ones that not only keep me on my toes the whole day but rewards me and gives me fulfilment just as if I have a full time job. My kids require most of my time and I am grateful that still I can do what I love doing and enjoy my passion for photography at the same time. And if you’re a mum, remember that you are at the top of the highest paid employees for full time job… The rewards are countless and priceless. (Go mums! I know its too early for salutes to mum, its not mothers day yet!). I am a full time mother and a photographer!

And still I can’t post without a photo so here’s a peek into one of my summer afternoons at home.

I have been off from any work since the holidays and have been guilty to rolling over and turning the alarm off in the morning. Now, it didn’t mean I haven’t been doing anything, the house work is still there to do but even after all that work done, we are enjoying the school holidays with board games, WII games, colouring and drawing as well (guilty!). Although I don’t start work until February, there is much to do work wise. I have lots of plans in updating the blog and I am now starting the first few steps in getting some sort of renovations and updates with the blog, so I am very excited.

Anyways, apart from the blog update, I have to do something to get out from the photography rut that I manage to get myself into staying home in this holidays, so today we decided to have a hat/cap day and here are my models.

The shoot really didn’t take very long as they were both busy doing something. Josh was playing Wii and he wasn’t really happy that I had to stop his game to take the photo and Tara was watching Diego and had to pause the movie to get her to put the hat on, but after taking the photos, I am really glad that I did.

Look at my boy, I didn’t know he’s got that look in him and my gorgeous little girl who is just growing up too fast. I think I just found the perfect light too in my house. For a long time, I am frustrated in taking photos indoors as it is too dark and not much natural light and don’t like using the flash very much as I haven’t found the right settings that work at home, but boy I love the light just from the back door. Perfect! I will definitely go and take more photos from there.

I used red rock texture for this photo of Josh and I like how it turned the photo very warm and the grass has gone dark. Very pilbara colours.

I will share some photos here from our trip in the next few days although I didn’t take a lot of photos because it was hard with the two little kids with us, especially while we were hiking or climbing up a gorge. We went through this little woods that I really like, especially with all the roots of the big trees at the side, so I just took a few quick snaps of the kids in between catching our breath and giving way to other people coming and going.

I took this photo really quickly but when I opened it up, I really thought of a fantasy photo, so I just did a really quick edit to give it a little bit of a fantasy feel as well as with some fairy dust. I could do more but I didn’t have much time, but still I like it.
