As much as the school holidays is highly anticipated both by my kids and me, I got tons of things to do from packing, shifting and moving. We are not moving town but the time has come when we say yae and nae to some things that are accumulating in the shed.

But here is great news for all of you who have always wanted to get some great portraits of your little ones especially with their siblings.

If you are interested, gather two or three mums who would like to get their kids some portraits. The session will go from 15 to 30 minutes for each family and should be held on the second week of school holidays which is 13th-17th July 2010. Contact me if you are interested and I will give you all the details.

I am excited about something I’ve just got in the mail but that will have to wait until the next post. Have a great school holidays and stay safe!

Now watching 3D TV has been the greatest milestone since the introduction of coloured television in the 70s. Wheww, we can’t even keep up, not to mention that it can be quite exorbitant to just have a decent home theatre system. I can’t help myself but think ‘what’s next?’ Will there be flying cars soon? or maybe people zooming around on their flying scooter? ok, maybe that’s just going overboard from the many sci-fi movies around.

Anyways, this fast technology advancement can also be seen not only in the normal household but also in photography. From the launch of digital camera to the high end medium format cameras, to the introduction of flash html for websites. Not to mention, the development of social networking. I’ve delayed, deliberated and waited but now I took the plunge and made my own facebook fanpage a while back. It would be a cool and different way to connect to everyone and I want to be able to grow this network with friends, clients and friends of clients, so come and join me on the page.

So come and join me here. Have a great week ahead!

Ok, it’s not that it’s really nothing kind of days but more like I can’t do anything really. I am not feeling the greatest with a horrible ‘pain’ and see myself curled up on the couch with some heat pads. And as much as I like to do something like probably dusting the house or doing the laundry to be productive, I have to stay on the couch (the least) and try to get better.

I have always wanted to try and play with some new actions and today gave me the chance to do it. Totally Rad Actions really rocks!!! totally! And the actions are so easy to use and very customisable to what you want. Totally rocking in my books.

This photos uses the TRA super fun happy and contrast (TRA volume 1)

The next photo uses TRA black and white with a boost on contrast and saturation before.

Just to note that I do not like to spend too much time on processing my images so I make it a point to get the photo right as perfectly as possible in camera, but sometimes a little boost is needed to make it really great, and that I use my favourite actions from MCP, Kubota and now TRA. Yay for great actions. Happy Thursday!

It happened over lunch yesterday afternoon. My lack of mojo amidst the mountain of things to do from all over the place, need something to boost my passion back to my blog and my stories and photos. So, I jumped into reconstruction mode and re-designed my blog from colours to style. I call this the “elegant and simple blog” (very technical right?), and my “brown swirlies blog” is taking a much deserved holiday (If only I could too!).

What started to be an online journal of my life just evolved to my crafts, passions and desires and has been a mix of portfolio, stories, scrapbooks and personal photo album (and now will include some of what my hands been up to in sewing).

There will probably be a few more tweaks to do from here and there but here it is, a new design.

But of course, I always get the usual hurdle in the way and this time is my twitter batch on the top. I have signed in and out, removed and installed back the widgets and re-typed all the info but still my tweets are not showing. Ahhh… I will have to just go back to it later on, maybe after focusing on another thing, it will be clearer to what I am missing here.

Just a few things….

* If you like to subscribe to my blog through e-mail, the link is on the top menu.

* Join me on facebook by clicking the like box on my bio area at the top. I do really need more friends. the more the merrier.

* The Comments section is actually really cute when its filled with comments So let me know what you think of the new look. It is formatted very easily so anyone can leave comments with just a few clicks.

* a new list of portfolio will soon be on its way.

*this post will be on top for a few days so scroll down to check out new posts.

Finally, thank you for everyone who’s been following my blog and reading it. Have a great Thursday!

If you knew me and have been following my blog well, you know I am a huge advocate of helping and sharing my knowledge. There is always so much joy in sharing even just a tiniest bit of anything to someone who needed your help. So I have partnered with the hip hop group at Y @ the JD to take their photography needs for commercial and marketing purposes.

The first lot of photos I took was the Try it Hedland night for all the kids with about 11 sports. Josh tried it out himself and I must admit he had a fantastic time trying out all the sports in Hedland, and of course, ensuring he had a good night sleep after that, as he was very exhausted. One of the sports for that night is the hip hop and it was a popular pick for all the kids, so I put together a slideshow of that night in photos.

I get to tick one off my 101 list. Thank you T for the opportunity. Happy Thursday!

The Pilbara Project week was an awesome adventure not only for me as well as for the professional photographers, and that’s all thanks to FORM who made sure that the week was well planned and everything we needed were there. FORM is dedicated to nurture creativity in every aspect.

I like to give a really big shout out to FORM especially to Carolyn and Peter Z who were there for us the whole week. They organised everything to the very detail and made sure that we enjoy every part of the adventure. Carolyn was just awesome ensuring we have water to keep us hydrated especially under the Pilbara heat in summer (which is HOT!). Thank you, you were fabulous!

To Peter Z, thank you for ensuring we had fantastic time in Marble Bar. You were great! (remember to take that 4WD driving lessons!) I really like the light on Peter while we had the harbour cruise and just captured him at the right time. You see how much he is enjoying the cruise. Nice pose!

So a very big SHOUT OUT to FORM for your unique ability to be overwhelmingly kind and flexible.

Remember there are many ways to tell a story, even one story can have many takes. Well, this story along with its vastness will always going to be enchanting, exciting and above all unique.

When invited to be part of the Pilbara Project late last year, I was ecstatic to even be selected amidst lots of enthusiastic photographers and I am so honoured to be chosen. Like any other person who first arrived in this town, the thought of spending days in the heat and dust wasn’t very appealing, I soon got distracted after buying my first SLR camera months after we arrived. The view through my lens was much more intriguing and exciting than the heat and red dust. And that was nearly 7 years ago.

Last week was a blast, as the photographers arrived to start The Pilbara Project. It was exciting seeing the town again from fresh new eyes; Eyes that have been honed for decades to see beauty, colour and light. We started with a tour of the town and just minutes after we took off driving around town, I could already sense the excitement the town is bringing to the group. A drive to a very familiar street took new meaning as I study the light that is hitting the buildings and structures. The camera started clicking non-stop until the harbour cruise at sunset.

An early morning shoot kicks off on Monday and a drive to Roebourne took on a new twist as we stop to every photographic location possible, thanks to the pros. Tuesday seen us taking the BHP tour, who is a major sponsor of this project, thanks to their generosity, this project is possible. The next two days were spent driving to and from Marble Bar and experiencing the coming of the thunderstorm first hand (well, more like right there happening in front of me). Thursday also was the opening night of the “I took the time to look” exhibiting photos from last year P.H.otography workshop as well as “From Somewhere Else” painting exhibition from local artists. It was a great night showing all the very talented people in Hedland. We finished off on Friday with a tour of the Port Authority and Dampier Salt as well as a night with the photographers.

It was a week that is truly an experience to be treasured. You remember the time when something happens to you and you know that it will forever stay and be a part of you. I felt that way, I knew my experience last week will shape the kind of photographer I will become in the future. I have learned heaps from each of the photographers and I will always be indebted to them for freely sharing their knowledge to me.

Visit The Pilbara Project blog and read all the stories we have about the Pilbara, remember, this is not only for photographers, but also for anyone who lives here, have come and visited the Pilbara and those who are just passing by.

As I sit here typing this post, I am still pinching myself to be chosen to be part of this workshop. I must say I am honoured and grateful that I get to take part of this really wonderful project.

Today was the first day of the week long workshop, and I must say I had already the best day ever. I am overwhelmed with the sheer warmth and passion for photography seeing how all the photographers work. We began the day getting the photographers to get know the town by a bit of a tour and of course with that comes stopping at the side of the road, getting our cameras out, taking photos of just about anything (and nearly getting run over by a truck) and taking photos of each other; which reminds me of a group of monkeys, where one is grooming the other with another one grooming another and so on. (not that I’m implying we are monkeys!)

We finished off the day with a cruise around the harbour (which I never done before) and just had an awesome time shooting and enjoying the cruise.

I will update you with more details during the week when I get the chance, so thank you for stopping by. Have a great week, I know I will!

I recently watched a video of Keats Elliott talking about connection with other photographers. It is just sweet when you have other photographers who are well advanced or even experienced than you, close together that can mentor you and help you as you grow in the photography field. I like that she is an advocate of helping one another who are in the same field even when each one has his/her business. Rather than be in competition, each one is helping one another grow in their business and their photography.

I plan that this year is all about being connected, whether to fellow photographers, or fellow small business owners, but also to really just anyone that will let you grow as a person, in your business, or in your craft. We can see this at its finest in the social networking revolution that is sweeping the net at the moment from facebook, twitter, flicker or even linkedIn. Although, I try to be sociable as much as I would want to be but balancing between social life and family life especially with little kids can get a little bit out of whack, as me and balancing have a friend-foe relationship, and I have had my share of black eyes from our scuffles in the past. One thing that do work with me is to write down my schedule and To-d0 list for the day. I have my normal routine right in front of me in my new office and that of course, includes the most part of spending time with my kids. I personally believe that kids grow so fast (so fast that without documenting your moments, you tend to forget) that I like to remember them when they are little and learning all about life. (This can be another post for another time).

What I am saying is connection is important. So start surrounding yourself with people that love and support you. (that’s me talking to myself as well). So if you think I can help you in anyway, or you can help me, please let me know.

And of course, a post is not complete without a photo. Here is Josh helping his dad with some gardening job.
