some great news to share

just before the start of the new year, in December, I receive an e-mail that really made my day and was just the best way to end 2009.  In its third year, the P.H.otography workshops here in Port Hedland have taken a new twist and started with just 4 photographers to go into an intensive mentoring program and I got the privilege to be one of the four photographers to be mentored by Christian Fletcher, Tony Hewitt, Les Walkling and Peter Eastway. I am so honoured to be a part of this and so looking forward to the workshop in early February.

These four professional photographers are among the best in the country and even internationally in landscape and portrait photography and I can’t wait to be able to just learn from these experts all the tips and tricks of photography.

And in that week of the workshop, we will open the Photography exhibition at the courthouse gallery showcasing all the photos taken by the photographers in last year’s P.H.otography workshop. It will be on the 11th of February at 6.30 pm at the Courthouse Gallery in Port Hedland and so happy to let you know that my image is the basis of their promotional material. A really great privilege for me to be part of this very successful program that FORM is running through the Courthouse Gallery.

This is a photo of one of the tanks in Port Hedland that houses the chemicals used in the operation of a few companies here. This part of the workshop had me climbing one of those tanks up to the top to take photos of Hedland, of course, all with trembling knees and hands. (I have a fear of heights for those who don’t know and it took a lot of convincing and internal reassurance to get to the top, all for some great shots).

So I personally invite everyone who can make it to Hedland on 11th of February to come and support all the local photographers and their eye for beauty in the Pilbara landscape and people. I know it will be a great night, so if you could come and you are a regular visitor to this blog, please do come and say hello to me, I would love to meet you.
